5. Doctor Strange Loses His Sister

Ahead of Doctor Strange's release, director Scott Derrickson revealed a scene that had been cut that would have added more to Strange's back-story, perhaps partially explaining not only why he became a doctor but why he carried such old wounds.

He described the scene to Collider:

"We shot a scene... you know, in the comics, if you know the comics well, Strange has a backstory where his sister died when he was young, and that she drowned. That had a real significant effect, and was probably instrumental in him becoming a doctor. And we shot that scene, and I loved that scene. It was a really great scene."

Though Derrickson said at the time he hoped it would be released as a Special Feature, it turns out Marvel apparently didn't agree on its importance.

Why It Was Cut

Derrickson himself explains that the scene simply didn't "fit in the movie" regardless of how well it worked as a stand-alone or how good Lulu Wilson was as Strange's sister.

That off-kilter tone is probably precisely why Marvel have chosen to leave it off the home release.
