16 Horror Films Worth Getting Excited About In 2016

7. The Blob

Yes, we're getting another remake of The Blob. The 1958 movie was already redone 1988, and so it seems like for whatever reason there has to be a new Blob movie every 30 years or so. The upcoming version will be directed by Simon West, who's known for a bunch of action movies like Con Air and The Expendables 2. His only experience with horror was the When a Stranger Calls remake.

West has described his version of The Blob as being more sci-fi than the original, noting that the creature will be sophisticated and there will be a practical explanation for how it works and where it came from. Do we really need to know more about the Blob than that it's a bunch of alien goop that fell from space? Apparently so.

As a special effects showcase, though, the new Blob will likely be worth seeing. So far, every Blob movie has reflected the time it was made in and what technology was capable of. In the '50s version, the Blob was just a combination of silicone and red vegetable dye, but the '80s one became a speculator practical effects extravaganza.

It obviously won't match the original, but the 2016 remake should be enjoyable as a reflection of how visual effects have progressed both since 1958 and 1988.
