16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

3. Locke

Plot: "Ivan Locke leaves an important construction job in Birmingham and drives to London. Along the way, he settles personal and professional problems on his mobile phone while having imaginary conversations with his dead father." - Wikipedia It's hard to know what to really make of this film yet as there's just one measly clip for it, but what we already know should be enough to want to see this. First of all, it's been a few years since we've seen Tom Hardy really take on a movie by himself. Since his powerhouse performance in Bronson, he's mostly played in supporting parts. But Locke is literally the Tom Hardy Show. Written and directed by Steven Knight, Locke was very much well-received when it made its festival debut last September. It predominantly features Tom Hardy in his car talking on his cell phone and from that, we get a well-made thriller. Wait what? How? That's exactly what I want to know. Hardy's performance has been praised as being "brilliant" from Time Out London, further saying that Hardy "feigns calm and control while making clear that Locke is dying inside." Meanwhile, Film.com called it a "taut character study." Can't wait. US release date: April 25th
