16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

2. Blue Ruin

Plot: A mysterious outsider returns home in order to carry out an act of vengeance and soon winds up in the midst of a brutal fight to protect his estranged family. Of all the films on this list, this movie has the most unknown cast. It's easy to tell people to see an indie film when it stars recognizable faces, with this one, you're just going to have to trust the buzz. When this movie made its way through the festival circuit last year, it took everyone by surprise. It first premiered at Cannes, then had a large festival run for the remainder of the year. By the year's end, it was the low-budget indie that everyone was talking about. Described as a revenge thriller, Blue Ruin has been compared favorably to the works of The Coen Brothers and Alfred Hitchcock. Lead actor, Macon Blair, also garnered a lot of praise for his performance. As Variety puts it, Blue Ruin is "a lean and suspenseful genre piece that follows a bloody trail of vengeance to its cruel, absurd and logical conclusion."
