16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

1. The Double

Plot: Based on the classic Dostoyevsky novella of the same name, a man goes mad after finding out that a doppelganger has replaced him. The Double stars Jesse Eisenberg in two roles and it also features Mia Wasikowska, Sally Hawkins, Chris O'Dowd, Wallace Shawn, and Noah Taylor. This is English director Richard Ayoade's second film, and judging from all the positive notices, he seems to be stepping into a weird and delightfully strange direction. Taking Dostoyevsky's novella and adding his own quirky touches, Ayoade's new film has been compared favorably to Brazil, Terry Gilliam's mind-bending classic. Jesse Eisenberg's performance has been called "a superb piece of meta-casting" by The Guardian; meanwhile, Screencrush.com praised the movie for always being "one step ahead of its audience" with it all leading to a "quite perfect ending." So, if you're looking for an interesting alternative to the summer blockbusters that will come out in May, definitely make time for The Double.
