16 Intriguing Indie Films To Watch Out For In Spring 2014

16. The Grand Budapest Hotel

Plot: Centers on the adventures of Gustave H., a legendary hotel concierge, who is bequeathed a painting called Boy With Apple by a deceased elderly woman who he once had a one-night stand with. In the midst of all the chaos that ensues, Gustave receives help from his new friend, the lobby boy. The Grand Budapest Hotel is Wes Anderson's eighth film, and at this point, you either love him or hate him. What's most admirable about the director is his blatant refusal to change. Whereas other directors may have attempted to redefine themselves for fear of critical backlash, Wes Anderson has continued to refine his style and perfect his craft. The result? His last two films were genuine critical successes. Moonrise Kingdom, in fact, was his biggest hit since The Royal Tenenbaums. Judging from the trailer, his latest film might be his wackiest. The Grand Budapest Hotel is a period piece, like Moonrise, and it's predominantly set in the 1920s which has allowed Wes Anderson to really let his imagination run wild. The film also has an amazing cast which includes Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, Jude Law, Edward Norton, and newcomer Tony Revolori. The film recently premiered at the Berlin Film Festival where it's been enthusiastically well-received. US release date: March 7th
