16 Movie Characters Who Were Killed For Being Clichés

2. Sirius Black - Harry Potter & The Order Of The Phoenix

The Cliche: "When all of this is over, we'll be a real family." Wrong. No, Sirius, you terrible father-figure you, you won't. Sirius Black is another of those almost mythic paternal figures - like Obi Wan Kenobi and Uncle Ben Parker - who can't live because his death is far more important to the main character's development. These men are plot devices, who will become more powerful (to the plot) than their vanquishers could ever possibly imagine. Black is the archetypal doomed father figure, and he wades into cliche territory thanks to his tragic promise to Harry that they will become a proper family as soon as the perilously dangerous magical war they're key players in ends. Needless to say, Sirius goes the same way as Lupin and Tonks (who make the mistake of similarly actually making a family during the second war with Voldemort). Warning:The next entry contains a major spoiler for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. If you're in the US, you might want to give it a miss until you've seen it.
