6. Monkey Island
Whether Pirates Of The Caribbean affectionately references Monkey Island or flat out rips it off probably depends on how you feel about the films. But it's hard to resist the similarities.
The story of The Secret Of Monkey Island centred on a supernatural curse and a damsel in distress, like The Curse Of The Black Pearl, and there's a creepy undead pirate villain in both. Monkey Island's LeChuck is just replaced by Barbossa in that respect.
The similarities don't end there, and it's extremely possible that they're all down to screenwriter Ted Elliot, who was initially intended to write the film adaptation of Monkey Island before it was binned.
