3. Kevin Bacon - Footloose
In recent years, the formerly fluffy haired actor who built his career on the back of dance classic Footloose has played a number of menacing character creations, from his harrowing turn in Hollow Man (a morality tale for anyone who dreamt of becoming invisible to spy on undressing ladies) to his mostly scene-stealing turn as Sebastian Shaw, but you should never forget your roots. And thanks to the genius sequence in Footloose when Bacon exorcises his rage by dancing around a factory in a not at all menacing manner, noone ever will forget his.
2. Christian Bale - American Psycho
The infamous Huey Lewis and the news scene in American Psycho, when Patrick Bateman confirms his malevolence by killing a business rival for the most brilliantly trivial reasons and in the most spectacularly awful manner also gave life to Bateman's funkiest moment. Never before had dance been used to reinforce the instability of a character, as the awful juxtaposition of light-hearted dancing and gruesome axe murder clash for one unforgettable moment.
1. Jack Nicholson - Batman (1989)
No villain should be sold down the river for a disposable moment of silliness, and Tim Burton's decision to have his Joker dance his way through Gotham showering his soon to be victims with cash was a distinctly distasteful way to treat the character. But there's no denying that the moment is an irresistible opportunity to see Jack Nicholson put his own incredibly cool image aside for a moment and embrace the spirit of the dance.
