16 Weirdest Horror Films You've Never Seen

8. The Wizard Of Mars (1965)

This incredibly strange (and cheap) sci-fi horror spin on The Wizard Of Oz involves the journey of a stranded space crew (in the far-off future of 1975), which includes a resilient astronaut named Dorothy (Eve Bernhardt).

Low on oxygen and desperate to find their missing booster rocket, they stumble upon the ruins of an ancient civilization, through which winds a paved road constructed of strangely-familiar yellow bricks. The road leads them to the central Martian (Emerald) city, in which they are greeted by the Wizard himself (the ubiquitous floating head of John Carradine).

This may all sound straightforward but The Wizard Of Mars has to be one of the most confusing films ever made. And when it's not confusing it's dreadfully boring. Highlights of this film include: the aforementioned disembodied John Carradine, rambling on forever about a bunch of foolish nonsense, the crew walking through a cave for about 20 minutes talking about absolutely nothing, and another 20 minutes walking around Mars talking about more nothing. This film is almost beautiful with its boringness, almost as if it were deliberate. What's really scary is, believe it or not, The Wiz is actually a better movie.
