The first film from cult British actor, Dexter Fletcher, Wild Bill is one of the better British films to come out this decade, and one that refreshingly uses quintessential "geezer" tropes without turning them into gimmicks of Englishness. The film sees Bill Hayward return home after eight years in prison to find his children abandoned by their mother and left to fend for themselves. Not wanting to get mixed up in the same circles as before, Bill tries to stay out of trouble but ultimately can't, culminating in a tremendous pub-fight which a) shows us finally how Bill got his "Wild" moniker, and b) serves as one of the Best British fight-sequences in recent memory. Impressively directed by Fletcher, and with a great cast which includes a breakout performance from young Will Poulter, soon to be seen in Alejandro González Iñárritu's The Revenant, Wild Bill is by turns violent, funny, and touching.
