4. Evolution - Head & Shoulders
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmoRVhG1VEE Certainly one of the most bizarre bouts of product placement in any film, and for that reason it simply can't make the #1 spot despite being complete superfluous. When an alien species lands on Earth and quickly begins evolving from a small pile of goo into, well, a giant pile of goo, it's down to two scientists and a trainee fireman (David Duchovny, Orlando Jones and Seann William Scott respectively) to try and stop the invasion spreading. It turns out that the only thing that can kill the aliens is Head and Shoulders, which of course is revealed in a wildly over-the-top finale that caused as many to, ironically, scratch their heads as it did make them laugh. It's as though the filmmakers were commissioned to pen the screenplay, got to act three and discovered that they were being sponsored by Head and Shoulders, so thought it an insta-cure to writer's block and bam, their script for Evolution was complete. Adding insult to injury is a closing scene in which the trio mill about playing out a pretend advert for the popular shampoo (see above). Quite literally shameless.
