17 Superhero Movies That Were Nominated For Oscars
14. Iron Man 2
Nominated For: Best Achievement In Visual Effects
Proof that even the most mediocre of sequels gets to go the Oscars, Iron Man 2 received a bunch more nominations for its visual effects at other ceremonies (it won a Hollywood Film Award), but the film's presence in other categories tells you all you need to know.
The Alliance Of Women Film Journalists nominated it for Sequel That Shouldn't Have Been Made (it lost to Sex And The City 2) while the Golden Schmoes crowned it Biggest Disappointment Of The Year. In the same ceremony, Scarlett Johansson was in the running for Best T&A Of The Year, but she lost out to Kelly Brook for Piranha 3D.
Strangely enough, history has failed to record whether Ms Brook thanked the actress in her acceptance speech.
