Nominated For: Best Achievement In Visual Effects

Iron Man launched the MCU back in 2008, so it's fitting that each of his solo adventures has to date received an Oscar nomination for its visual effects. The question is whether the movies will continue to entertain after time has done its work and diminished the level of spectacle.

Without the effects, you're at the mercy of an overlong narrative whose "villain" turns out to be as menacing as....well, as menacing as Ben Kingsley playing a character named Trevor Slattery.

At 130 minutes, it's the longest of the trilogy and while there's more going on here than in Iron Man 2, it's a very sanguine viewer who'd call it economical.
