16. Does William Shatner Have A Cameo? - Star Trek Beyond
The Question: Rumours have strengthened with the recent death of Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy, that the third new Star Trek movie may well feature William Shatner playing an alternate timeline, older version of his Captain Kirk, likely to give the new Kirk (Chris Pine) and the crew of the Enterprise some much-needed advice. But as this was rumoured in previous movies also, so is the third time actually the charm? The Likely Answer: It won't happen. For one, it would just feel like too much of a repeat of the gimmick the filmmakers pulled out for the previous two movies, and then there's the inherent absurdity of seeing Shatner in a new Star Trek film, which would probably derail any serious drama the movie was trying to stir up. That thinking could be wrong, but seeing the protagonists yet again seeking advice from an alternate timeline just reeks of too much laziness.
