18 Disney Movies Coming In 2021 And Beyond
10. Captain Marvel 2
Captain Marvel created a huge buzz when it was released in 2019, as the MCU's first female led, and first female directed movie. Brie Larson and Anna Boden made history, but did the movie itself live up to the hype? In the opinion of many, unfortunately it fell short of expectation.
While there was a genuinely surprising plot revolving around the Skrulls, some of the writing and a lot of the CGI let Captain Marvel down. It's not a bad movie by any stretch, but fell somewhere in the middle of the MCU pack which, for a character such as Carol Danvers, is somewhat disappointing.
Of course, since the movie did ultimately gross over one billion dollars, a sequel was inevitable. Though it wasn't announced as part of phase four at Comic Con, Disney have since allocated it the release date of 8th July 2022, just three weeks before Indiana Jones 5.
Seemingly part of phase five then, we know next to nothing about the sequel. It's hard to imagine Marvel Studios not bringing back Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, but in regards to story, who knows what will happen? Since it is releasing after the potentially universe changing Doctor Strange 2, there is no telling what the MCU landscape will look like in three years time.
