18 Mind-Blowing Facts About Blade Runner

6. Blade Runner 2049 Pays Tribute To Ridley Scott’s Big Head Obsession

Blade Runner Ridley Scott
Warner Bros.

The casual observer of Ridley Scott’s work might not know this, but in recent years the director has demonstrated a quirky predilection for including massive heads in his movies.

In Prometheus, we see a giant monolithic head aboard the Engineers’ ship and in its sequel Alien: Covenant’s so-called “Hall of Heads” there were more giant heads than you can shake a stick at. Sandwiched in between those films was Scott’s not-so-highly rated biblical epic Exodus: Gods and Kings which also featured – you guessed it – a giant head.

Though Scott has passed directorial duties onto Denis Villeneuve, it seems Blade Runner 2049 will pay homage to his big head fetish too – in the teaser trailer, we see Ryan Reynolds walking towards a giant head in a dusty, desert landscape and in the official trailer there are statues of two ponytailed women that look like they’re about to make out and have pretty big heads too.
