14. The Religious Inspiration Behind Tyrell’s Flashy Pad

Dr Eldon Tyrell’s sumptuous sleeping quarters were inspired by none other than the Pope’s fancy bedroom at his Papal Apartments in the Vatican City.

Blade Runner production designer Lawrence G. Paull wanted an elaborate, eclectic space hence why Tyrell’s bedroom is decked out with a super-size bed, draped curtains, a Chinese screen reportedly costing $25,000 and more candlesticks than you can, um, shake a candlestick at.

Having said that, Blade Runner was filmed back during the reign of Pope John Paul II so the Papal Apartments have probably undergone a few makeovers since then.
