The Heroes: Thanks to the trademark Abrams secrecy, all we know is that the movie will be fronted by an ex-stomtrooper named Finn, and Rey, a scavenger that may have some very famous parents.
The Villain: Likewise, rumours have swirled surrounding Adam Driver’s mysterious Kylo Ren. He looks to be a high-ranking member of the First Order and is some measure of Sith.
Why The Villain Will Be More Interesting: Han Solo may have been a lovable rogue but there's little debate that Darth Vader is the most famous character in Star Wars. He was incredibly powerful, remorseless and there was a tantalizing secret being kept under his mask.
Looking to the new films, we can paint Kylo Ren in a similar light. The brief snippets of action show him to be a powerful wielder of the force and like some other Sith masters, he chooses to conceal his face, potentially as a means to maintain a public persona.
Recent trickles of information from Abrams also suggest that he will be fairly wild and freewheeling, not another uptight politician. Most interesting of all, is the rumour that he could in fact be Han and Leia’s son. It’s far-fetched, sure, but just imagine if it’s true.
