The Hero: Aaron Taylor-Johnson could return, or they could focus on a new human entirely. Godzilla will be back and although he’s not the main character, it’s easy to consider the king of monsters the real hero of the film.

Why The Villains Will Be More Interesting: Frankly, as a giant lizard that doesn’t speak, there’s only so much that Godzilla can do. The first film was wise to limit his screen time, in effect, making his appearances all the more impactful.
The sequel faces a similar challenge in portraying his fellow beast-like antagonists, but it looks like it will circumvent this by having Godzilla face a lineup of no less than three monsters. There’s diversity in their designs and abilities, meaning they will always be able to stay fresh, a luxury that Godzilla himself does not have.
One of the smartest things about Godzilla was having the two MUTOs trying to mate. They had a simple, understandable goal, so finding a way to get a giant dragon, moth and dinosaur to work together could be the key to making these monsters more interesting than the stale Godzilla.
