18 Upcoming Villains Who Will Be More Interesting Than The Heroes

15. Captain Salazar - Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

The Hero: Though it’s been pointed out that the real hero of the series is Will Turner, with him gone, the face of the franchise remains Johnny Depp’s over-the-top but generally enjoyable, Captain Jack Sparrow.

The Villain: With the Pirates series increasing jumping the shark with every go, Sparrow will face off against the ghost pirate captain Salazar, played by noted man of menace, Javier Bardem

Why The Villain Will Be More Interesting: Jack Sparrow will usually be entertaining (though more so in a supporting capacity) but there’s really nowhere new to go with him. We already know his drunken swashbuckling antics inside out.

We don’t know about Captain Salazar, however. All we know is that Javier Bardem is playing him and he’s the ghost captain of a pirate ship. Normally that might raise some alarms for being too ridiculous, but in the case of Pirates of the Caribbean, it pretty well suits the tone they’re going for. Bardem has been known to ham it up on occasion but he’s also responsible for some of the most iconic villains from the last decade. There's no reason to think he can't do so again.
