16. Narcopolis - Elodie Yung

Rotten Tomatoes score: 29% Elodie Yung is yet to grace our screens in an attempt to eradicate everything that we remember about Jennifer Gardner€™s sandbag stabbing Elektra, but there's not long to wait now; Yung will be playing the infamous assassin in Season 2 of Daredevil (which will be released in March). Narcopolis may have mixed reviews but it focuses on a concept that has been the focal point of many a contemporary debate: the legalisation of recreational drugs. Loosely based upon a novel by Indian author Jeet Thayil, Narcopolis depicts a near future in which a police officer, Frank Grives, works in a city where the manufacture and use of all recreational drugs is legal. However, this new law is controlled and exploited by licensed drug companies (kind of like how pharmaceutical drugs are treated in reality). Elodie Yung plays a woman named Eva Gray who holds the answers to a case Grieves is obsessed with, connected to the creation of a new, lethal drug. Caught in a clash between those who want it destroyed and others who seek to unlock its potential, Grieves soon realizes exactly what the corporations are attempting to accomplish €“ the creation of a drug that will allow time travel. You should see this if you are invested in the concept and complications of legalizing recreational drugs and enjoy a dose of science fiction, despite the script lacking in some areas.
