15. Blackhat - Chris Hemsworth
Rotten Tomatoes score: 34% A film that looks great on paper yet lacks it in execution, Blackhat is the timely story focusing on the world of global cybercrime, something that has scorned every cheating spouse on Ashley Madison. Blackhat tells the story of Nick (Chris Hemsworth), a convict who works with both American and Chinese partners in order to track down a high-level cybercrime outfit whose tentacles traverse the globe, from Chicago to Los Angeles to Honk Kong and Jakarta. Directed by the prolific Michael Mann, Blackhat reflects his filmography as it is not wholly consistent in quality; Mann has produced as many gems as he had luckluster fares. For every scene that is engaging and moves the story forward, there are boring instances in which the plot spins out of control. Still, a film about computer crime can be hard to turn into must-see viewing and Blackhat makes some admirable attempts to do so. You should see this if: you like contemporary crime flicks that focus on a shady system you may not know much about and want to be paranoid that the world will one day be aware of your search history.
