20 Action Films From The 1990s You Must Watch

Not long after successfully directing RoboCop, Paul Verhoeven was onto another major success in the form of Total Recall, which gave audiences something they did not know they wanted; Arnold Schwarzenegger on Mars.

Schwarzenegger stars as Doug, an ordinary construction worker with Sharon Stone playing his beautiful wife Lori. But after Doug decides to go to the local Recall clinic to have artificial memories of Mars implanted in his head, he unlocks deliberately repressed memories of his life as a secret agent. Now on the run from armed men and his undercover agent wife, Doug must travel to Mars in order to get some answers.

Although the plot may have a number of holes in it, the film more than makes up for them with plenty of one-liners and gory violence. It also has a wide variety of practical effects that will either amaze you with their creativity and execution, or make you laugh at how bizarre and excessive they are. Regardless, Total Recall has stood the test of time as one of Verhoeven’s best films and a truly unique film among Schwarzenegger’s other action films.
