20 Action Films From The 1990s You Must Watch
14. Con Air (1997)
Nicolas Cage stars as Army Ranger sergeant Cameron Poe with a terrible southern accent. He returns home to his pregnant wife after being honourably discharged, but after defending his wife from three drunk men and inadvertently killing one of them, he is sentenced to ten years in jail. Eight years later, he is paroled and is being sent home via a flying prison transport.
Although Poe is excited to finally get to see his daughter for the first time, a number of seriously messed up inmates start a riot on the plane and hijack it. Determined to stop the hijackers, Poe tries his best to stay on their good side while also trying to alert the authorities as to what is going on and what the hijackers plans are.
Con Air is fondly remembered as one of those films that has a number of problems with its story, but knows how to keep you entertained with plenty of action sequences and a final act that delivers a satisfying conclusion to the whole thing. It also helps when you have a cast of actors like John Malkovich, Dave Chapelle, Danny Trejo and John Cusack giving it their all.
