20 Actors Who Were Almost Cast As The Guardians Of The Galaxy
9. Joel Edgerton
Almost was: Star Lord Like Sturgess an actor who's been lingering around the sides of stardom for years now, Joel Edgerton was another of the gang who screen tested for Star Lord. His casting would have proved a strong geek touchstone for a film that owes a lot of its stylistic influence to Star Wars; Edgerton played young (Uncle) Owen Lars in Star Wars Episodes II and III. One of the few relative unknowns to come out of the prequels with a career left to salvage, the actor's been relentless in his work, seemingly never taking a break. Some of the films (The Odd Life of Timothy Green, The Thing) are less than impressive, but amongst them are the impressive likes of Zero Dark Thirty, The Great Gatsby and Warrior. It's such a strong range of roles that getting roped into a Marvel franchise, in this case, could be a bad thing; his career seems to chugging along nicely. Edgerton's next big role is Rhamses II in Ridley Scott's self-explanatory Biblical epic Exodus. You can imagine as he started facing down against Christian Bale's Moses he was asking himself "Star-who?"
