Almost was: Star Lord It seems Marvel can't make a film without Joseph Gordon-Levitt being rumoured to be the star. He is, after all, one of the hottest actors in modern Hollywood, with serious indie-cool and the ability to make everything he does seem effortless. And, since the prospect of a John Blake spin-off to The Dark Knight Rises (which, let's be honest, was the best way to continue Batman on screen, Knightfall style) is dead in the nuclear-soaked water this man's free to lead a franchise. It's hard to think of Gordon-Levitt besting what Pratt did with the character, but as far as star power to put behind the film, you can't get someone more suitable. For a long time it seemed he was set for the stars, but eventually Gordon-Levitt pulled out of the race to be Quill when he was cast in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For and shooting schedules wouldn't match. Whether that was a smart move or not we'll see when that film arrives in a few weeks, but it's fair to say his departure led to a much more open playing field.
