If you want snarling, animalistic and smelly, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more bountiful mine of available options than the rogue's gallery of 1980s punk metal bands, which is probably why former Misfits front-man Glenn Danzig was apparently offered the chance to play Wolverine in an X-Men movie in the mid-90s. The prospective casting directors were clearly sold on Danzig's magical way with words, and his ultra-macho image, but sadly for them, Danzig had to turn down the role due to scheduling conflict with a lengthy tour.

The movie never happened, which is probably a good thing if they were looking at casting punk rockers without any acting experience in key roles, and ultimately Bryan Singer came in and eventually cast Hugh Jackman.

As the final full-stop on Danzig's association with the role - unless he is unthinkably called back when Hugh Jackman inevitably hangs up his claws (and it looks unlikely now) - the singer decided to denounce Jackman's performance, stating that he wouldn't have taken the same approach to the character, as he so elequently and offensively expressed to LA Weekly:

Early in the film€™s pre-production, you were in talks to play Wolverine in X-Men. How would you have played Logan/Wolverine differently than Hugh Jackman? It wouldn€™t have been as gay. Actually, he wasn€™t the first choice. They hired Dougray Scott. He had a falling out with the director, and then they hired Hugh Jackman. I€™m glad I didn€™t do it. It was terrible.

Bitter much?
