20 Amazing Movie Plot Twists That Never Get Talked About
11. Human-Horse People - Sorry to Bother You
Whatever you expected out of Boots Riley's riotous sci-fi black comedy Sorry to Bother You, it surely wasn't this.
In a near-future dystopia, protagonist Cash Green (LaKeith Stanfield) is a telemarketer who finds himself drawn into a bizarre conspiracy involving the megacorporation WorryFree.
WorryFree is dealing in slave labour, and because that's not bad enough, when Cash later meets with WorryFree CEO Steve Lift (Armie Hammer) at a party, he ends up stumbling across a shackled half-horse, half-human hybrid who begs him for help.
Lift then reveals that WorryFree plans to have its workers snort a DNA-modifying power which will turn them into "equisapiens," amid the belief that this will produce stronger and more obedient employees. Yup.
Now, Riley's film was hardly straight-laced up to this point, but the whole horse-human twist was definitely a stark left turn from what just about anyone expected. And yet, as part of Riley's broader satire of late-stage capitalism, it absolutely obliterates its intended target.
