7. Blanche Caused Her Own Paralysis - Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? is an unassailable classic of 1960s cinema, though it simply isn't talked about nearly enough these days.
The film revolves around Jane Hudson (Bette Davis), an ageing former child star who torments her paraplegic sister Blanche (Joan Crawford), in their decrepit Hollywood mansion.
Early on, it's stated that the car accident which caused Blanche's paralysis was caused by Jane, though at the very end of the story Blanche confesses that it was actually self-administered.
In reality, Blanche tried to angrily run Jane over after she drunkenly mocked her at a party, but she instead crashed the car into a gate and consequently staged the crash to suggest that Jane, who was absolutely blitzed at the time, was the culprit.
Effectively, Jane's miserable life ever since was orchestrated by her sister - a revelation which basically turns the entire story on its head in devilishly twisted fashion.
