4. It Was Anette All Along - Magpie
Magpie is one of the more underappreciated thrillers of recent years, starring Daisy Ridley as Anette, a wife and mother whose daughter is cast in a film alongside the absolutely gorgeous Alicia (Matilda Lutz), who Anette's husband Ben (Shazad Latif) quickly falls for.
The picture leads us to believe that Alicia is receptive to Ben's advances, by way of sexually explicit texts and videos, but the ending reveals in brilliantly savage fashion that this isn't true at all. Instead, we learn that once Anette found out Ben and Alicia swapped numbers, she took Ben's phone and changed Alicia's number to her own, allowing her to pose as Alicia.
Anette even went to the extent of sending Ben a low-lit striptease video while wearing a wig and posing as Alicia.
The entire "romance" was faked by Anette to catch her straying husband out, and just as Ben learns this, he crashes his car, seemingly dying in the subsequent fiery wreck.
In the grand pantheon of "good for her" movies, Magpie absolutely deserves more respect.
