The Plot: John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is mourning the loss of his wife, and bonds with a puppy she bequeathed to him. After gangsters break into his home and kill the dog, however, Wick finds himself returning to his old, violent ways in a quest for revenge. Why It's Awesome: Easily Reeves' best role in years, John Wick may sound like familiar action fare, but there's a lot to be said for a genre flick which does an efficient job with unoriginal material. The real highlight here is the electric action sequences, which are shot without much quick editing, instead lingering on long shots, allowing the viewer to savour the superb fight choreography. Needless to say, Keanu kicks a lot of a** in this movie. This is a movie that knows its limits and absolutely plays to its strengths, and there's a lot to be said for that. As an added sweetener, John Wick 2 is already in development. How To Watch It: On DVD now (US) / In cinemas April 10 (UK)
