20 Awesome 80s Movies Which Defined Our Childhood

1. The Goonies

Warner Bros.Warner Bros.If you were only allowed to choose one film from the 1980s which summed up your childhood, many of us would choose The Goonies. A film which has gone down in history as perhaps the greatest kids' movie of the decade, for a lot of us it sums up the spirit of adventure and exploration we felt as a child, and it remains just as entertaining today when viewed through nostalgia-tinted glasses. A group of young friends uncover a man to the long-lost fortune of legendary pirate One-Eyed Willie and set out to hunt it down - unbeknown to them, the fugitive family the Fratellis are hiding out in the abandoned seaside restaurant the map points to, forcing them to escape into a mysterious cave system as the criminals set off in pursuit. Child actors can be annoying to watch at the best of times but The Goonies is perfectly cast, with each of the kids bringing to the screen a unique and memorable role, with Sean Astin, Corey Feldman and a young Josh Brolin forming the band of misfits. And who could forget Sloth (played by John Matuszak), swinging through the air wearing a Superman t-shirt as he cries out "Hey you guys!" - if ever there was a battle cry to define the 80s, this line would be a contender for the top spot. Rumours of a Goonies sequel have been floating around for many years, and the good news is that Steven Spielberg is now on board. A date has yet to be confirmed for the beginning of the production, but with Astin and Feldman both confirmed as being on board things are looking good for fans of The Goonies 30 years later.
