20 Awesome 90s Movies The World Forgot

The 90s was the golden age of action cinema. Hard Boiled. Terminator 2: Judgement Day. The Matrix. Speed. Air Force One. The Rock. Goldeneye. Die Hard with a Vengeance. The Fugitive. Point Break. True Lies. Face/Off. Police Story 3: Supercop. There's just a few of the bangers this decade gave us. 

But don't forget Executive Decision. 

Maddeningly, this Die Hard on a Plane always goes unacknowledged. Aside from its sluggish pacing in the middle, this is a high-quality action film through and through. It's got a satisfyingly relatable everyman hero played excellently by Kurt Russell, it's got a menacing villainous performance from the great Sir David Suchet, it's got a clever mid-story plot twist and best of all, it shows a complete mastery of suspense. 

Throughout Executive Decision, the tension frequently escalates to unbearable levels, with the characters constantly surviving things by the skin of their teeth. The entire scenario is masterfully constructed, with one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after another, and the third act is terrifyingly tense. 

Owing to the cramped space and the aviation industry's high safety standards, it can be difficult to do a good action thriller on a plane. Executive Decision is one of the all-time best attempts at such a premise and the fact that no-one seems to talk about it is just bizarre. Action fans still seem to remember inferior plane-set 90s actioners like Passenger 57 and the overrated Con Air, so where's the love for this one?
