20 Awesome Horror Movies In 2025 You Definitely Missed
8. Dead Mail
One of the most stylistically evocative horror films of the past year, Dead Mail revolves around a deeply peculiar setup and only gets stranger from there.
A kidnapped keyboard technician drops a desperate message begging for help into a mailbox, after which it arrives at a post office, prompting the office's dead letter investigator to try and track down its origin.
Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy mine this twisted setup for maximum unease, aided by spot-on stylistic flourishes which so perfectly capture the gritty, grainy aesthetic of shot-on-film '80s genre cinema (despite actually being filmed digitally).
The central performances from Sterling Macer Jr. as the victim and John Fleck as the kidnapper are outstanding, and despite its inherently grim nature, there's also just enough dark humour and off-kilter weirdness to offset it.
Dead Mail definitely won't hit for everyone, but those keen to dig into the more out-there fringes of horror will probably have a blast.
