20 Awesome Horror Movies That Never Got Sequels

Oculus was the second feature film from the great Mike Flanagan and served as his breakthrough work, proving critically and commercially successful enough to establish him as a promising rising horror auteur.

With its success, then, many expected Oculus to spawn a franchise of movies centered around the focal haunted antique mirror, yet more than 12 years removed from its release it's remained a surprising one-off.

Though Flanagan himself has expressed an interest in developing some sort of Oculus follow-up, the problem is two-fold.

First and foremost, Flanagan recently confirmed that the rights to Oculus are tangled up, and he isn't actually aware of who owns them at present.

And beyond that, Flanagan has become one of the most sought-after horror filmmakers of the past decade.

As he's currently at work on a new Exorcist movie and plans to eventually adapt Stephen King's The Dark Tower into a series for Amazon, it's tough to see where he'd find room to make Oculus 2 anytime soon - if ever.
