20 Awesome Horror Movies That Never Got Sequels
14. Near Dark
Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark is one of the greatest vampire films of all time - a gorgeous neo-western horror film topped by an iconic performance from the late, great Bill Paxton.
It's another '80s classic you might assume had a straight-to-video sequel or two without Bigelow's involvement, but surprisingly enough it's a mere standalone film that hasn't even been remade in the near four decades since - despite a game attempt to do so in the mid-2000s.
There are a few factors at play here - the first (and only) film ends in pretty conclusive fashion with little obvious "in" for a sequel, and Bigelow herself reportedly had no interest in franchising the concept.
Then there's the fact that Near Dark was a box office flop and only became a cult hit years later on home video, allowing it to exist as a single film which got in, did its thing, and then abruptly exited as if it was never there.
