Bong Joon Ho's The Host is one of the greatest creature features of the past 20 years, and proved successful enough that a sequel swiftly entered development for a tentative 2009 release date, albeit without the involvement of Bong, who had no interest in continuing the story.

Neither this nor several other attempts to produce The Host 2 ever came to pass, though production got far enough that test footage was released online in 2012, prompting some outlets to mistake it for actual footage from the sequel.

This version was intended to be filmed in 3D and apparently got close to shooting in 2016, though ultimately the project was cancelled for unspecified reasons.

While it certainly would've been fun to see a sequel to Bong's terrific monster movie, it was hard to remain enthusiastic without his input, considering the heart and humanity his script brought to the original.

Without his returning vision, a Bong-less Host 2 would've surely felt sorely lacking.
