20 Awesome Horror Villains Introduced In TERRIBLE Movies
1. The Bye Bye Man - The Bye Bye Man
And finally we have The Bye Bye Man, a horror villain clearly intended to launch his own franchise, and yet despite the character's genuine potential, he was swiftly undone by his own terrible debut.
The Bye Bye Man is a demonic entity which can be summoned by anyone who either thinks or says its name, after which it'll stalk and eventually kill the person in question.
It's certainly a compelling concept for a new serial killer - one whose existence is predicated solely on its own legend continuing to be spread like a curse.
But as neat an idea as that is, and as creepily as the character is portrayed on-screen by the great Doug Jones, the film ultimately ends up feeling like a braindead hybrid of It Follows, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Candyman.
With airless direction and a laughable script that includes baffling zingers like, "Daddy, what do you think I am, a flashlight?," any sense of atmosphere the Bye Bye Man himself musters on screen is swiftly undone by, well, pretty much everything else.
A sequel with a different filmmaking team could've perhaps improved things, but the film performed mildly enough at the box office that a follow-up never materialised.
