20 Awesome J-Horror Movies Every Horror Fan Should See
9. Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Plot: A Metal Fetishist gets revenge on the Businessman who ran him over by slowly turning him into a horrific hybrid of metal and flesh.
Tetsuo: The Iron Man is an extraordinary film.
It's a shocking and frankly nightmarish work that reaches unbearably high levels of intensity and delivers some utterly stomach-churning body-horror along the way, making this a masterwork of surrealist cinema. It's also, in general, a cinematic tour-de-force thanks to the superb stop-motion special effects, expressionist lighting, ferocious editing and terrifying visuals.
It's very hard not to admire the sheer level of creativity on display here, especially considering that this was shot on a shoestring budget and had a hellish, 18-month shoot during which nearly all of the crew got so fed up they walked off. Still, something truly special was produced here.
It's a very disturbing horror film that lives up to its 18-certificate and then some, so viewers that are young or sensitive should be kept as far away as possible. If you can deal with all this horror though, Tetsuo is a must-watch, especially for fans of surrealist cinema.
