Plot: A detective tries to solve an inexplicable series of murders committed by people who have no memory of what they did.
This offering from J-Horror maestro Kiyoshi Kurosawa (no relation to Akira Kurosawa) features a villain with an unassuming appearance who is then able to stealthily hypnotise people to commit horrific crimes. That's actually a really good metaphor for the film itself.
It starts out slowly and viewers might not be entirely engaged at first, but then Cure really sneaks up on you and terrifies you witless. It's an atmospheric, brutally frightening psychological thriller with an unforgettable villain and terrific directing from Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
This one really, really messes with your head and is not for the faint of heart. Fun fact: it's one of Bong Joon-ho's favourite films.
