20 Awesome Movies You Didn't Know Were Still Coming In 2020

6. Spontaneous

The Midnight Sky George Clooney
Paramount

This sci-fi comedy from writer-director Brian Duffield (The Babysitter) boasts one of the year's most deliciously ridiculous premises, focused on a meet-cute between high-schoolers Mara (Katherine Langford) and Dylan (Charlie Plummer), just as a pandemic hits in which victims spontaneously explode. Yup.

A fiercely original riff on a tired formula, the marketing and rave reviews for Spontaneous suggest a refreshing, genre-hopping rom-com with cult classic potential written all over it.

The talented Langford and Plummer certainly seem to be giving it their all, and should ensure the film makes for entertainment both escapist and weirdly life-affirming during the present global crisis.

Spontaneous is out on VOD on October 6th.
