Though it's cut from familiar cloth, critics have been sure to foreground the movie's sharp style, amazing music, and sublime performances from both Thompson and Asomugha.

As a diversion away from the awards-courting films and more frothy blockbusters clogging up our pipelines by year's end, this should be a suitably pared-down, modest diversion.
