The Midnight Sky George Clooney

Sacrilegious though it might seem to remake a classic Alfred Hitchcock joint - or rather, re-adapt Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel - Rebecca is sure to be anything but a garden variety rehash with singular director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, Free Fire) at the helm.

Lily James stars as the beleaguered young woman haunted by the lingering spectre of her husband's (Armie Hammer) titular first wife, while the stacked supporting cast includes Kristin Scott Thomas as the ice-cool housekeepers Mrs. Danvers, alongside Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd.

Though unlikely to supplant Hitchcock's original adaptation in the minds of most, it certainly looks fittingly ravishing, and if nothing else Wheatley can surely be relied upon to lean into the novel's darkest and most salacious elements.

Rebecca hits Netflix on October 21st.
