20 Awesome Movies You Didn't Know Were Still Coming In 2020
17. The 40-Year-Old-Version
Far more than a witty title, the filmmaking debut of writer-director-star Radha Blank has been buzzed about ever since its Sundance premiere, where in addition to strong reviews it scooped the U.S Dramatic Competition Directing Award.
Blank plays a fictionalised version of herself, a downtrodden New York City playwright struggling to make a breakthrough before she turns 40 years of age, before deciding to reinvent herself as a hip hop artist.
Critics have praised Blank's multi-hyphenate work on the film, delivering not only a stirring underdog story for more mature audiences, but doing so with a totally unique voice.
The 40-Year-Old Version is released on Netflix on October 9th.
