20 Awesome Recent Horror Movies You'll Never Watch Again
8. Cuckoo
Sometimes a film is so materially strange that there's just no replicating the joyous discovery of that first viewing, as is certainly the case with Tilman Singer's Cuckoo.
This deeply twisted sci-fi horror makes the absolute most of its airy German Alps setting, while Hunter Schafer is terrific as a teenage girl who finds herself assailed by an increasingly unsettling set of circumstances.
Dan Stevens is meanwhile on peerlessly creepy form as the mysterious lodge owner Herr König, ensuring Cuckoo is a gamy mystery stew that should be just the treat for adventurous horror fans.
But again, Cuckoo is a film you can only discover once, and honestly, once you've seen the story play out from beginning to end, it's tough to imagine another viewing being nearly as rewarding or interesting.
The film's more divisive elements, like its wildly inconsistent pace, might ultimately feel more bothersome once you know all the answers.
