Simply put, there's no other horror film like I Saw the TV Glow.

Jane Schoenbrun's fascinatingly eerie meditation on identity and existential ennui has a vibe very much its own, with Justice Smith giving a slyly heartbreaking performance in the central role of a high-schooler coming to question his own sense of reality.

Fans of classic '90s TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Adventures of Pete and Pete are sure to get a real kick out of the film's many elevated, dreamlike nods to that era of media.

But this is no mere hollow nostalgia exercise - it's a thoughtfully unsettling character piece that offers up a world you may find yourself unwilling to spend any more time in once the end credits roll.

While for some Schoenbrun's messaging might make I Saw the TV Glow an unexpected comfort film, for most it's a portal into a Lynchian nightmare you'll probably just want to admire from afar.
