17. The Saddest Alien
The xenomorph is the stuff of nightmares. HR Giger must have been in touch with some darker part of his consciousness, or managed to mine his own terrible dreams, to have come up with something as horrifying as the titular monster from the Alien films. Used sparingly on screen, whenever the xenomorphs show up, you know something bad is about to happen. And you know that viscerally as well as intellectually, because the thing looks absolutely terrifying, its physiology unlike anything you've ever seen. Except if you peak into the process behind the Alien films and realise they're played by very tall men, and sometimes those men get tired and sit down whilst wearing their costume and look like a sad, sleepy Alien. Aw.
