20 Best Ever Quentin Tarantino Characters
20. Earl McGraw- From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Grindhouse
-->Long before peoples minds were blown by Marvel and their shared Cinematic Universe, Tarantino had come up with the concept for his own universe, a place where the characters and events of Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Basterds, Django Unchained etc. could all take place and connect. For example, Michael Madsens Vic Vega, a.k.a Mr. Blonde, from Reservoir Dogs is the brother of John Travoltas Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction. Tarantino has confirmed this and even stated that at one time he was planning to do a film including both characters, called The Vega Bros., but due to time and its relentlessness on both Madsen and Travoltas frail looks and bodies, this has now been scrapped by the director.
However this is not the only universe Tarantino created, he also created an alternate universe, a place where his more extreme and fictional stories, such as From Dusk Till Dawn with its blood thirsty vampires, and Kill Bill with its Crazy 88s, could exist. This more fantastical universe has been described as containing films that characters from the more realistic universe, i.e. Jules Winnfield and Mr. Pink, would go to watch in the cinema. Still with me?... Good.
Now what makes McGraw so special is that not only is he one of the more subtle and frequent hints at the idea of a shared Tarantino Universe, but he, along with his son Edgar McGraw, are the only two characters, to my knowledge, that appear in both the realistic universe, as they appear in Death Proof, which is one half of Grindhouse and is placed under the realistic universe banner, but they also pop up in the uber violent and fantastical From Dusk Till Dawn, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, as well as Robert Rodriguezs other half to Grindhouse, the zombie movie Planet Terror.
The fact that Earl and his son are a link through both Tarantino Universes, with no explanation given by Tarantino himself, as well as appearing in other directors films, makes Earl and his son a very niche set of characters, who always manage to create a round of applause from the Tarantino faithful whenever they make an appearance in a film of his.
