20 Best Female Characters In Comic Book Movies - Ranked

2. Catwoman (Batman Returns)

Comic Book Females
Warner Bros.

The only movie Catwoman which matters. After killing off the Joker in Batman's debut movie, the villains of Tim Burton's Batman Returns had some mighty big shoes to fill. Danny DeVito's Penguin is weird and gross and even hilarious, but no Blockbuster Batman movie can be sustained by the Penguin alone. Enter Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman.

This Selina Kyle/Catwoman is barely recognisable as the character from the books, from costume to origins. She's barely a thief, either, more vengeance-driven mischief maker. But her chemistry with Keaton's Batman/Bruce Wayne is excellent, the costume is a genius update for Burton's kinky, Gothic Modus Operandi, and Pfeiffer is purrrrfect. The "mistletoe is deadly if you eat it" line? Iconic.

With one of her nine lives remaining, the door was left open for Catoman's return to the franchise. Sadly, what we got instead doesn't even bear mentioning.
